Where Can I Go On A Road Trip In The UK And Europe?

By Zunsport - 3rd May, 2024

Lockdown is starting to ease, and for most of us, that means there is a massive temptation to immediately jet off on holiday. However, before you even think about looking at flights - it’s well worth considering your options for driving holidays. After all, there are loads of amazing road trips right on the doorstep! Why not avoid the stress of public transport and explore one of these amazing destinations safely and easily from the comfort of your car?

The Scottish Highlands

Some of Scotland’s most incredible scenery is easily accessible by car. Because it’s in the U.K. a visit to Scotland is a great way to satisfy your wanderlust, without worrying about quarantine or travel restrictions. Just make sure you follow local guidance and social distancing measures, and you will find that this breath-taking destination truly has loads to offer. Of course, there are the incredible sights you can see, rolling fens, moorland, and some stunning peaks, but there are great places to eat too. Whether it’s incredible fresh seafood from the lochs or locally distilled whiskey, you can eat and drink your way around this beautiful destination. Film fans might like to experience some of the most magical and mysterious filming backgrounds from the Harry Potter films, many of which were shot in the Scottish Highlands. Why not drive past the breathtaking Rannoch Moor, which features in the Deathly Hallows films? It’s not just Harry Potter either - road trippers can take in the stunning Eilean Donan Castle, which featured in the Bond series as the Scottish headquarters of MI6! Skyfall also featured possibly the most iconic driving scene from any Bond film, as the Aston Martin passes the peaks of Buachaille.

Germany

Always a popular destination for drivers, Germany is easily accessible for vehicles, normally via the car ferry between Harwich in the U.K. and Holland. Once you land in the Hook of Holland, it’s just a short drive away from some of Germany’s most popular city destinations like Cologne and Bremen. Slightly further afield, you can find Hannover; known as Germany’s great garden, it’s a popular destination to find great outdoor attractions, which are accessible even with the social distancing measures in place.

Belgium

Because the Eurotunnel is open to cars, Belgium is still an easily accessible road trip destination. As well as a fantastic tourist-friendly city in its own right, Belgium is also an easy stepping stone to get to the famous Nürburgring, which has now reopened for drivers. The continent is taking social distancing and hygiene very seriously, but if you carefully follow the guidance, there is no reason that you can’t enjoy European travel by car!
